GameStop's Glittering Pokémon Scarlet & Violet Legendary Pokémon Giveaway Continues to Encounter Problems
Towards the end of September, Nintendo and The Pokémon Company revealed a joint giveaway with the gaming retailer. Until October 15, Glittering versions of the legendary mascots from Pokémon Scarlet and Violet were distributed at physical GameStop stores in the United States and at EB Games in New Zealand and Australia. Involved local stores in other countries such as Japan and France were also added in the promotion.
Early Troubles and Code Shortages
However, the promotion got off to a rocky start—enthusiasts reported that their local stores had exhausted their code supplies in the period before the event. Currently, midway into the promotional period, the company has restocked the codes, but chances are your local store has already run out.
Due to overwhelming demand, the first wave of complimentary Shiny Koraidon and Miraidon codes went very quickly.
On Saturday, October 4, the retailer announced a replenishment of codes on X. The company's statement explained that they had worked with The Pokémon Company to make more codes available, but there is a limitation. "We have received from Pokémon a restricted quantity of receipt codes, around 50 per location."
Scalping and Resale Problems
Initially, stores were given 50 codes, but they quickly ran through them. Despite the event limiting codes to one per person, some online auction posts appeared with multiple codes for sale. This has continued for the second batch of codes. A prominent response on social media stated, "These codes right?" alongside screenshots of online sales for the codes, with one listing having several codes on offer.
Varied Outcomes for Players
Certain fans managed to obtain codes over the weekend from their nearby shops, while some had no such luck. "Waiting on 3rd chance now. I contacted my local GameStop. They have no codes left (once more)," a fan commented, before fellow enthusiasts stepped up and provided them with extra codes for the shiny legendary Pokémon.
Unanswered Questions
The reason these shiny legendary Pokémon weren't earned through a in-game Tera Raid or distributed digitally via the Mystery Gift feature remains unknown. At present, you must visit your local store and hope they still have codes left if you want a shiny version of these legendary Pokémon.
