Lando Norris Edges Out Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
The British driver has outperformed his teammate at all of the past five grands prix.
The McLaren driver just pipped team-mate and title rival the Australian for the top spot in the final moments of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who seized the points lead from his teammate by one point after taking the win in Mexico City recently, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by a mere 0.023s.
Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the leading McLaren throughout the hour before sprint qualifying due at the evening session.
Max Verstappen, the other racer in realistic title contention, trailing with a 36-point deficit behind Norris, was classified in 17th place as his team opted for a alternative strategy.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to go off, albeit lightly, when he spun at corner four early in the session.
Tsunoda spun out over the exit kerbs before spinning across the escape zone, and was lucky to get away with just a light touch of the wall.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also spun, at the final moments of the practice, spinning around through the quick descending corner leading to the last turn on to the pit straight.
Hamilton ended the session in 19th place, one place behind team-mate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren drivers were far ahead of the remaining drivers, with the German's Sauber third fastest, over half a second off the Australian's time.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was in fourth, with the Sauber of Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
