Beautiful weather, classic snacks and legendary venues - what else would an England cricket fan possibly want?

Realistically, they'd hope for an Ashes series in Australia where they retain a possibility to win back the Ashes after the first three Tests.

This is not the case on this occasion, however, after the hosts' dominant triumph in Adelaide left the home side leading three-nil for the fourth straight contest on their own soil.

The Barmy Army, England's supporters' group, have thousands of supporters making the journey for the last two matches in the SCG and MCG.

In addition, there are travel parties who will be vacationing overseas, as well as families and friends embarking on a once-in-a-lifetime trip.

The Disappointed Travelers

Four fans named Alex, Sam, Rory and Katie are among those affected.

Alex, Sam, Rory and Katie had their itineraries and entry credentials arranged for the fourth and fifth Tests "12 months ago", anticipating a historic English victory.

Sadly, they've observed Australia outplay the visitors in just under two weeks from their family home in Penwortham, Lancashire.

"People in the office has been giving me grief that the series is done for the last two weeks," commented one sibling.

"The hope was that we would have something to play for still when we got there."

Fading Positivity

There was plenty of positivity regarding the team's prospects of securing a first win in 15 years for a victory down under ahead of the tour.

However, the situation is now staring down the barrel of extending their winless run in the country to 19 games when the Boxing Day Test begins in the MCG on Christmas Day.

Ben Stokes' side - and their followers - will be hoping to sidestep a dreaded 5-0 scoreline.

Alex said the "entertainment" of head coach the positive style of play in recent years had "brought fresh energy to" the longest format for England fans.

But the Ryding siblings said they had low expectations for the fourth and fifth Tests - and all they are requesting from the players is "some resilience".

"Commentators consistently alludes to it, but it all hinges on fortitude. 'Bazball' has been become a phrase now that is just, like, unrealistic play," commented another sibling.

"During a long match, you should apply yourself. Playing at deliveries 'outside the line has not been part of the textbooks, and that is mainly the fault the top order."

Looking Ahead

Asked whether he believed England will triumph in a Test in the current series, came the reply: "The evidence suggests the Aussies are just too good at the moment."

"It will require several individuals that stands up for England and makes a big impact."

Despite the scoreline, the group remains excited about the trip.

"We are going to have a wonderful trip regardless," said Katie. "We have to go with that attitude."

"Naturally, it's disappointing we don't have more to play for, but we have invested a significant amount by now."

"We plan to savor celebrating the holidays out there. This will be mine and Rory's first time abroad at this time of year."

An educator, Katie is determined to make the most of the lengthy journey as part of her time off.

"Should the cricket disappoint, I've got golf to fall back on," she added.
