Prime Small Screen Choices: Seven Can't-Miss Motion Pictures This Coming Week

Highlighted Choice

This Satirical Thriller

The filmmaker's bold commentary addresses the tyranny of women's appearance along with the feared consequences of ageing. Demi Moore delivers a masterful acting turn as Elisabeth, an aging actress forced into presenting a workout series on TV. Forced aside due to her slimy boss her manager Harvey, she turns to a secretive and horrifying process known as "The Substance". This produces a youthful duplicate portrayed by Margaret Qualley, leading to a steadily more parasitic dynamic between them. Friday 17 October, Paramount Plus

The Woman in Cabin 10 Film

This suspenseful thriller features the talented actress playing Laura, a skilled journalist who opts for a break from reporting on international wars to embark on a luxury cruise with a gravely sick wealthy inheritor and charitable figure, her partner, plus additional extremely wealthy passengers. However when an unknown lady goes overboard during the evening and everyone insists she wasn't real, her journalistic curiosity awaken. Streaming currently, Netflix

Presence Film

Steven Soderbergh pushes his creative boundaries with this innovative ghostly tale shot entirely from the perspective of a ghost. When a household including mother Rebekah and troubled teenage daughter Chloe settles into their fresh home, the camera – AKA the Presence – follows them around. The teen shows signs of aware of the ghostly being, and it looks like guarding her. But why? It's a fun idea that remains concise, with a twist that may be unexpected. October 11th, 4.35pm, 10.10pm, Sky Cinema Premiere

Nicolas Cage's Meta Comedy

Nicolas Cage embraces his eccentric image in this self-referential adventure. He plays an egotistical celebrity named Nicolas Cage who takes on a million-dollar gig to visit a birthday party on the Spanish island for billionaire Javi Gutierrez. Hired by the intelligence agency to spy on the alleged criminal, his “nouveau shamanic acting ability” is put to the test. Saturday 11 October, prime time, Channel 4

The Black Phone Horror

Derrickson's claustrophobic thriller holds up well even without a continuation. Taking place in the late 70s in Denver, several kidnappings has left the youth on edge. After Finney is kidnapped by “the Grabber” and held captive in a cellar, he dreads the worst. But the disconnected phone in the room keeps ringing, with eerie communicators offering help, as the prophetic visions from his sibling Gwen could save him. An effective horror. Saturday 11 October, 10.50pm, the Film4 channel

The Tammy Faye Biopic

In the conflict between God and Mammon, it's a knockout win for materialism in this director's brilliantly over-the-top true story of the disgraced religious broadcaster and her criminal husband. The actor acts as the greedy Jim, who proclaims at the beginning, claiming divine approval for wealth. Both individuals begin monetising the people's Christian beliefs. It's a spectacle of bad interior design, bad makeup and hypocrisy, though Jessica Chastain manages to show Tammy Faye with compassion. October 14th, early morning, the Film4 channel

The Spy Mystery

This period's another release from the filmmaker presents a spy mystery as precise like the turtlenecks used by Michael Fassbender's British agent. His assignment is with uncovering a traitor among the team from a group of five – including is his spouse. Each performer excel of calm composure, resulting in an engaging mental battle of deception or honesty unfolds. Tom Burke, Regé-Jean Page, Naomie Harris and Marisa Abela take part the intelligent intelligence fun. Friday 17 October, multiple time slots, Sky Cinema
