The Game UN:Me: A Psychological Horror That Blends Survival Horror and Among Us Gameplay

The latest Day of the Devs digital showcase revealed a number of intriguing upcoming titles, but one especially has captured attention: UN:Me. Developed by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player adventure appears to fuse together the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill game with the paranoid deduction heart of Among Us.

"This is a unique game where a young woman harboring multiple human souls inside her must escape from a maze of the psyche," explains developer Yasukazu Kawai.

Entering a Fractured Consciousness

In UN:Me, players assume the role of an unnamed female protagonist seeming to be of teenage years. Inside her reside four separate souls, each with their own anxieties and motivations. These entities can take over at will, releasing their deep-seated phobias upon her suddenly.

Judging by showcased gameplay, much of the action takes place within a creepy medical facility, though other scenes depict the protagonist navigating a abandoned church.

An Environment of Personal Dread

"What makes you afraid of? What makes you uneasy?" poses game director Shun Sasaki. "High places. Small rooms. People in power. Things that appear minor to others can activate a deep instinct inside us. This game explores that concept — fears that are specific to every individual."

The central mechanic involves managing the persona that emerges at any given moment. However, these identities will change against your will as you play. While exploring, every persona's fears become exaggerated and assault the protagonist one after another. When the soul shifts, so does the specific fear the player encounters.

Eerie Aesthetics and a Fatal Decision

Initially, UN:Me displays noticeable aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill series. The setting is filled with orderlies who all share the identical visage, with disturbingly broad smiles. Patients in the lobby have large blooms where their heads are. Floral motifs are an ever-present element, juxtaposing natural beauty with supernatural dread.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a unique mechanic. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four souls haunting the heroine is the "true" one. "Each of the souls claims that the body belongs to them," notes a developer. "Throughout the game, you must determine who is authentic."

After a player have deduced a persona is fake, they are forced to destroy it. But, because every entity can deceive or obfuscate the reality, it is very easy to choose incorrectly.

"Maybe you've already eliminated the real [soul] by your own actions," the narration suggests. "The last one remaining could be a fraud. In any case, your decisions are final."

UN:Me does not yet have a confirmed release date, but it is can be wishlist on digital storefronts.
