The network's Premier New Show of 2025 Earns a Major Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.
In October of last year, Adult Swim welcomed back its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. But, later that same month, the network launched a brand-new animated series with a distinctly unique vibe. Haha, You Clowns emerged as gentle and comforting, reminiscent of a animated take of a contemplative talk show. In an era often defined by cynicism, this show's wholesomeness found an audience and turned it into a surprise hit.
A Major Commitment
In mid-December, Adult Swim made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for a further two seasons. This offers showrunner Joe Cappa a massive runway to develop the story of the Campbell family. The show follows three respectful teenage brothers whose defining trait is their strong bond for their single father, with Cappa portraying for all four central characters.
"My deepest thanks go to the viewers of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and spread the word," remarked Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for seasons to come."
Executive Acclaim
Accompanying the news praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and strangely uncanny." He shouted out the fans who found the show and championed its peculiarly charming sensibility.
"All of you supported this new show, rooted for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Wholesome Alternative
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a gentle counterpart" to more cynical adult animated fare. Viewers found something deeply soothing about following this endearing family navigate their simple existence.
In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa shared his goal to help comedy break out of its long-running sarcastic tone. He linked this trend to various cultural shifts.
“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” explained Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we just have to laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”
The Path Forward
With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa could potentially help usher in that very evolution. At a minimum, the renewal promises audiences a little more time to enjoy the gentle humor of the unique Campbell clan.
The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The entire series is currently streaming on HBO Max.
