People have come together around the country to mark two years since the Hamas-led offensive on that fateful day in October 2023, as discussions proceeded in Egypt over an end to the conflict in the Gaza Strip.

The incident resulted in over 1,200 people killed and 251 others taken back to Gaza as captives. It was the most most lethal day for Jewish people since the Holocaust.

Israel answered by launching a armed campaign in Gaza which has claimed in excess of 67,000 people, based on figures from the region's Hamas-controlled health ministry. Its statistics are regarded as accurate by the UN and other world agencies.

"The aggressive opponents have hit us hard, but they have not overcome us," the prime minister stated on Tuesday.

He also pledged to "realize all the goals of the war: the return of all the captured, the elimination of the Hamas regime and the guarantee that Gaza will never again create a danger to Israel".

Remembrance Gatherings Across Israel

The government authorities delayed official memorials until 16 October - after the conclusion of the festive season - but events still were held around the country on that day.

A remembrance service for the families of Israelis who died in the Hamas incident was conducted in Tel Aviv. Put together by the affected families, it was televised on Israeli television channels.

Hours earlier, a silent tribute was respected throughout the country.

Ceasefire Discussions in Egypt

Simultaneously, Israeli and Hamas negotiating teams met in the Egyptian coastal city of Sharm el-Sheikh for a continuing round of indirect talks to review the terms of the proposal.

A high-ranking delegate familiar with the negotiations revealed that an evening round of mediated discussions started at 19:00 Cairo time.

The representative stated the morning session ended without significant progress, because of conflicting views over the recommended Israeli retreat arrangements from Gaza and over assurances Hamas seeks to make certain Israel does not recommence combat after the initial stage of the deal.

He added that the talks are "difficult and have still not produce any significant progress," but mentioned that facilitators are making efforts to narrow the differences between the both parties.

Essential Issues in Discussions

  • A lasting halt to fighting
  • The trade of the prisoners still detained by Hamas for detainees from Gaza
  • The pullout of troops from Gaza
  • Plans for relief supplies distribution
  • Post-war governance of the area

Civilian Feeling

In Tel Aviv's Hostages Square previously, 29-year-old a woman - whose sibling endured the assault on the outdoor event, where many attendees were killed and many more were taken hostage by Hamas militants - told: "No location appears as home any longer and until every captive are released not a single person will feel safe."

"After we see all home returned, we can breathe anew. Then we can start to rebuild," she concluded.

In front of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's home in the capital, people gathered to express their support for the families of the hostages. Israel states forty-eight remain in detention in Gaza, 20 of whom are thought to be alive.

Demonstrator Atalia Regev explained: "It's necessary do whatever arrangement required for the abducted to return. But we truly desire assurances that we will be secure."

Surveys now regularly indicate that about 70% of Israeli citizens want the conflict to finish in return for the freedom of the captives.

Gaza Situation

At the site of the music event, grieving people gathered to pay their respects.

From that location, the boom of Israeli air strikes and explosions could be detected just a short distance away in Gaza, where observers indicated the intense Israeli attacks continued.

In the main city, attacks were reported in the early hours of Tuesday in the western neighborhood, area and Nasr districts and in the east side area of that sector, as well the camp to the northwest.

"Once the evening falls, the anxiety comes with it," relocated Gaza City resident a mother, whose teenage son was died by an Israeli air strike earlier, shared.

"My family are afraid of the air strikes. During nighttime we are resting together, embracing, especially my little child who rests his face on me throughout the night."

"Every second we look at the news to see developments. And I'm afraid that this ceasefire will not be finalized and that the fighting will come back to us."

Humanitarian Crisis

The healthcare center in Gaza City said it had taken in the corpses of half dozen people by the afternoon, including three who died in an Israeli bombing in the southern area.

Another medical facility in the southern urban center of that area said another two dead people had been transported. An individual was killed by Israeli troops while seeking aid to the south, health workers stated.

Gaza's health ministry reported twenty-five of the {territ
