The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named Six Seven Spared by Miami-Dade Mayor.
While perhaps not at the equivalent scale as granting clemency to Thanksgiving turkeys, but the Miami-Dade County mayor conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She deserves this act of mercy. She has committed zero crimes,” stated the mayor in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued from the start of the commencement of a second term in office.
“Unless you count eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” the mayor added. “May this pig enjoy a prosperous future without fear.”
The gathering, which both honors and questions the area's customary feast of feasting on pork during the holidays, was created to replicate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The pig, provided by a first responder, was christened after the popular vernacular phrase of young people exclaiming “6-7” – inspired by a rap song lyric – often without clear purpose. The craze became so widespread that a major dictionary recently declared “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.
A Peaceful Retirement
The pardoned swine is now destined to live out its days at a farm sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“This swine clemency has become one of our favorite ways to open the end-of-year celebrations,” said Eric Castellanos, in a decidedly positive message.
“It represents the character of Miami: vibrant, multicultural, and grounded in customs that foster togetherness. Each year, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Attendees enjoyed a plant-based fare of croquettes and cafecito as they celebrated Six Seven’s big moment.
