The President Invites Families of Attacked Guard Members to the Presidential Residence
President Trump stated on Sunday that he has asked the family of a Guard member killed last week to come to the presidential home.
He mentioned that he spoke to her parents and they were “devastated”.
Background on the Tragic Shooting
Soldier Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was killed in a violent incident on last Wednesday in DC.
Her comrade, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, is still in the hospital in serious condition.
Gatherings across the state have occurred in their memory.
Presidential Call
The president explained he’s proposed a visit to the White House for the loved ones of both individuals of the West Virginia National Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a difficult moment, arrive at the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to Sarah,” Trump addressed journalists. “And likewise with Andrew, whether he recovers or not.”
Community Support
Community members assembled over the past few days at a local school in West Virginia to remember Sarah.
Both they had been working with the military unit as part of Trump’s national effort to assist policing efforts in Washington DC.
Honoring the Soldier
“She was the individual that teachers wished for. She behaved with calm resilience, a bright grin and a optimistic attitude that encouraged those around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the leader of Beckstrom’s alma mater, told the Associated Press. “She was sweet, caring and always ready to help others.”
Service plans for Sarah are yet to be finalized.
Judicial Measures and Policy Changes
Law enforcement have charged a 29-year-old suspect with a charge of murder and charges of attempted murder while carrying a weapon.
The incident led the administration to halt asylum processing and halt providing entry permits to possessors of passports from Afghanistan.
Condition of the Airman
Andrew Wolfe, a native of Martinsburg, started his military career in February 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman high school, according to the AP.
He continues to receive treatment and is “fighting for his life”, the state’s leader Patrick Morrisey mentioned on television.
The state’s top lawyer the attorney general stated on the program that she planned to speak to the family.
Legacy of the Fallen Soldier
Sarah, from Summersville, graduated from Webster County High in June 2023 and began her service not long after, working as a law enforcement officer with distinction, as stated by the state guard.
“She had a lot of kindness and she certainly had bravery,” Morrisey told the gathering at the service. “Though her time was cut short, she has made an impact that’s going to be remembered always.”
