The ex-lawyer for the former president has stepped down as the chief federal prosecutor in the state. This decision was prompted by a court battle that invalidated her legal standing to occupy the role.
Attorney General's Statement
The head of the Justice Department, Pam Bondi, confirmed her stepping down on the start of the week. She commented that the court's "flawed" ruling made it unworkable for the official to perform her duties.
"Do not interpret following the order as giving up," she declared. "The effort will now extend throughout America."

Habba's exit comes a week after a US appeals court found that she had been unlawfully serving as the top prosecutor. This decision is expected to impact numerous legal proceedings in New Jersey.

The Attorney General added that Habba will continue working within the Department of Justice as a top consultant. Habba plans to challenge the decision of the disqualification, in the hope of achieving a different outcome.
In a statement, the Attorney General contended that the court "must not second-guess the executive's selection of attorneys responsible for carrying out the primary duty of the administration of criminal prosecution."
