UK Ready to Employ Seized Russia's Holdings to Fund the Ukrainian Defense
The United Kingdom is ready to advance with employing the total value of seized Russia's funds to bolster the Ukrainian military campaign, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has stated.
In a shared declaration, the leaders of the UK, France, and Germany stated that this joint measure would escalate tension on Moscow's head Vladimir Putin and urge Russia to engage in negotiations.
They clarified that the initiative would be carried out in close cooperation with the US.
British penalties have blocked in excess of £25bn of Russia's funds since Russia initiated its full-scale invasion against Ukraine in 2022. However, previously, money provided to Ukraine using Russia's assets had exclusively been sourced from profits and interest generated on them.
Sir Keir assured President Volodymyr Zelensky that the United Kingdom, the French Republic, and Germany were aligned in their aim to push forward toward employing the complete amount of the immobilized Russia's state funds to halt hostilities.
He noted that more restrictions soon would heighten the tension on Moscow.
This declaration is subsequent to EU representatives gathered in the Danish capital last week to consider utilizing frozen Russia's holdings for a €140 billion loan to the Ukrainian nation.
Recently, President Donald Trump encouraged Group of Seven partners to seize or otherwise use frozen Russia's holdings, according to media sources.
The value of frozen Russian assets in the European Union is estimated to be almost €211bn.

Russia carried out large-scale bombardments throughout Ukraine on that day, causing blackouts in large parts of Kyiv, the city, and multiple additional areas.

Additionally that day, Zelensky stated to media outlets he would encourage Sir Keir to enter the weapons procurement program, under which Nato countries purchase military equipment from the United States to provide to Ukraine.
While commending the United Kingdom's firm backing for Ukraine, he noted it should demonstrate clearly that it would engage in the system, as well as impose further restrictions on Russia.
